Stripped damper bolt
I was pulling the damper off and forgot to add the brass stub at the end of the puller. I stripped the first half of the threads and soiled my pants. I can't believe it. What can I do? Can I use a heli coil device. Please please help.
Thanks,

If you only damaged the first few threads, see what you can do about getting a tap started and chasing them. Be carful not to cross thread with the tap or you'll really be in trouble. I don't know what these cost, but maybe you will want to give one a try? http://fulltorque.com/ffb.htm

get a 7/16" NF stud the same length as the bolt. Install it into the crank with loctite and use a nut to pull the balancer on and tighten it down.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Run a tap in it then get a longer bolt!TEAMWORK is essential, it allows you to blame someone else!

Thanks for the ideas I really appreciate it. I'm going to check it all out and decide what's best. I only have 1/4 of the threads left and it strips when it get close to torque.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
