It's gonna need a new motor. Price a crate motor from one of the Chevy stores.....

Can't build a motor for the price of a crate motor of same performance level. If your not looking for a lot of performance, the universal truck 350 sells for around $1350.00 for the long block with 3yr, 36,000 mile warranty. I just put one in a '82 Camaro with 600 Edelbrock carb, and a 268 Comp cam and Edelbrock performer intake. Most everything on the '69 should swap over.

Use it as a boat mooring. The GM goodwrench 350 is a good engine. They arn't the fastest but they run so good and have decent power. I had one in a 1982 S10 pickup. I think they are rated at 265 horsepower with headers and aftermarket manifold and carb.

That means that compression is below acceptable specifications on that particular cylinder . That can be caused by ---bad/burned valve----broken piston ring----scored cylinder wall-----. If your lucky and its a burned valve, then the engine can be fixed by having the head "done", without unbuttoning the engine.

Only thing is, if its burning lots of oil, too, a head job ain't gonna fix it.

its possible that it could just need a re-ring, but if you go that far you might as well build it... try checking craigslist or classifieds to find a cheap 350... theres always someone just gettin rid of a pull out that still runs
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

my friend told me what to do for a temperary fix. he said to throw in about a shot glass of brake fluid in with the oil. he said that it will make the oil expand and will create like a seal on the cylinder. but its only a temp fix. will that work?

Um, that is something I have always been too poor to try. Sounds like it will cost lots of money not long after that is poured in there.

There have been quite a few backyard remedies floating around. I haven't seen many fix a problem, even temporary. The brake fluid "fix" I heard pertains to oil leaks and valve stem seals. Pour it in the oil and it swells the rubber up to renew the seal. The then, already hardened rubber deteriorates away , making a bad problem worse.

If you want to drive the car that bad, without doing any motor work or swaps, Drain the oil and add one quart of "No Smoke", one quart of "Engine Restorer", and enough quarts of smokeless oil to fill it to the full mark. The cylinder that is low will most likely need an anti-fouler screwed into the plug hole before the plug. Don't start it cold, guaranteed to break the oil pump shaft or worse. And it WON'T FIX IT, just hide it a little and slow the oil consumption down. The only way to fix it is too rebuild or replace.

DON'T put brake fluid in the oil! Its like antifreeze, it wrecks bearings and galls and scores everything. A myth, like the old Bon Ami trick.
