    Help Identify engine

     



    I 'm trying to ID a SBC

    The block cast# on the left rear GM 355909

    The stamped # on the right front is 5719

    I'm trying to find out what I have so I can get correct Tune-up parts and specs

    plugs
    wires
    dist cap

    Can anybody help?

    355909 appears to be a 1976-85 305 c.i. small block.

    The early blocks have the dipstick on the drivers side. The newer models, from 1978 on, had the dipstick on the passengers side.

    There is also a listing for a 355909 262 c.i. motor that was in the 1975 and 1976 Monza and Nova.

    Dipstick is on drivers side therefore I should assume its a 76-77 305?

    What does the 5710 denote?

    It's a little known fact that if you Google a Chevy block number, you'll get mucho information. Most of these block codes are on the web.

    355909 = 305 76-79 Truck
    355909 = 305 78-79 Pass,Camaro,Malibu,Monte Carlo,Nova

    This same casting number was used on a 1976, 262 C.I. block.

    I'm pretty sure that 355909 ended with the 1979 year, and was not used into the 80's - but I could be wrong.
