The whole point was to show how a bigger cubic inch SMALL BLOCK CHEVY would be a better build for a pump gas street engine. You could build it milder, turn it less, have more bottom end torque to run a higher gear, and it would last longer. No one said you couldn't build a 283, just that more cubes is money better spent. I don't care who you are, you will have a hard time and spend more money to build a 283 to hang with a 383 in a 3000lb car on the street running pump gas. Don't tell me you can do it, post the combo.Ken Thomas

no no i said you can build a 283 with 375 horse for under a grand. i never said my motor was built for under a grand. you must how to read, you read stupid magazines that have brainwashed into only building 350+ cube motors. go back and re-read my posts. i said i have built them i didnt say MY motor was like that. are we done playing kiddy games now? because i am keep spouting and ill glance at it and laugh and look at my motor and laugh some more are the way i have defied the laws of physics,, wow that was so hard to build!

Yeah Ray, I know what you were trying to say. You were just saying the same thing I've been thinkin' all along. I have no idea why some of these guys have to take the contrarian point of view that they do. It's just common sense. Start with a big dog to pull your sled. He won't have to work nearly as hard gettin' the job done and he'll last longer than a smaller dog.

I got a 283 too. If I use heads, pistons, valve train, and misc. parts I already have, I could too. But it would be all used parts that are already paid for. Add them up and they are way over a grand.
who said you have to buy new. see under a grand!!!! like i said engine rebuild kits= cheap way

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
