I don't care who you are, you will have a hard time and spend more money to build a 283 to hang with a 383 in a 3000lb car on the street running pump gas. Don't tell me you can do it, post the combo.
I pretty much agree with what you are saying, but unfortunately you hit a raw nerve with some and the emotions got somewhat carried away. That's not what this forum is about.

Lighten up, I'm not the one trying to build a 283 to hang with a 383 for a $1000.00.

Yeah Ray, I know what you were trying to say. You were just saying the same thing I've been thinkin' all along. I have no idea why some of these guys have to take the contrarian point of view that they do. It's just common sense. Start with a big dog to pull your sled. He won't have to work nearly as hard gettin' the job done and he'll last longer than a smaller dog.

I got a 283 too. If I use heads, pistons, valve train, and misc. parts I already have, I could too. But it would be all used parts that are already paid for. Add them up and they are way over a grand.

Nuff said. I'm putting my guns back in my holster. The national guard just rescued me. Thanks Tech, Pat, Erik, Stu, and others for seeing my point. This could have been a good thread for a everyday Joe to learn something when he decided to build a everyday engine for his truck.
