Thanks Pat, you made my point for me.... A small block has no place in either a 4000 pound car or a 49' boat. And that was my point. You do not need a 4000 pound car or a 49' boat to go fast.

I've ran big blocks, small blocks, and everything in between. What I do know is that a small cubic inch motor (400 CI or less) in a light weight car 2800 pounds or less) is cheaper to build and less costly to maintain the a 600" motor in a 4000 pound car!!!!

As far as your big block boat, come on out to the Missouri River down around Gavins Point Dam on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and you can see all the 75 mph small block powered boats you would care to see.

I would contend that if you have never seen small block motors go fast, then you haven't spent much time looking......

First of all who has a 4,000 lbs. car?My last bracket-car with a bbc and a glide only weighed 3,100 with me in it.A small cubic inch sbc 400 or less cubes will require a lot more work? The problem is everyone I know tries to turn their sbc to 9,000 or more r.p.m.'s and I would throttle stop my old 598 at 6,200 and the only up keep after racing every weeked the entire summer was I would run the valves every other weekend. The guy's with the sbc's where putting in new valve springs every month and running their valves every race.

I don't know who has the 4000 pound big block car, Pat brought it up!!!! I'm the one who had the small block car that weighed 2800 and change. The new car will be at least a couple hundred pounds lighter!!!!

Oh, by the way, I don't run small block chebbies either..... I shift my big block and small block Fords at 7200. The small blocks are a lot cheaper to build and maintain. Maybe not so in a chebbie, haven't run one for years.....

Nope, Pat. I've never gone 75 mph in a Sea Ray (kind of a slow hull, aren't they?) But I have gone 75 mph in a Remak 24' drag boat hull with a 408 Windsor stroker with a 671 blower for power...... Maybe that doesn't count though, it ran on methanol with just a small touch (4%) of Nitro to help with the tune up..... We don't play much with pleasure boats out here.....
