Thanks Pat, you made my point for me.... A small block has no place in either a 4000 pound car or a 49' boat. And that was my point. You do not need a 4000 pound car or a 49' boat to go fast.
I've ran big blocks, small blocks, and everything in between. What I do know is that a small cubic inch motor (400 CI or less) in a light weight car 2800 pounds or less) is cheaper to build and less costly to maintain the a 600" motor in a 4000 pound car!!!!
As far as your big block boat, come on out to the Missouri River down around Gavins Point Dam on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and you can see all the 75 mph small block powered boats you would care to see.
I would contend that if you have never seen small block motors go fast, then you haven't spent much time looking......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Oh, by the way, I don't run small block chebbies either..... I shift my big block and small block Fords at 7200. The small blocks are a lot cheaper to build and maintain. Maybe not so in a chebbie, haven't run one for years.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Nope, Pat. I've never gone 75 mph in a Sea Ray (kind of a slow hull, aren't they?) But I have gone 75 mph in a Remak 24' drag boat hull with a 408 Windsor stroker with a 671 blower for power...... Maybe that doesn't count though, it ran on methanol with just a small touch (4%) of Nitro to help with the tune up..... We don't play much with pleasure boats out here.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
