    chevy engine vin #

Maybe someone can help me find out exactly what motor i got. I just got givin a truck with a very strong running SB chevy. The block casting # from rear of block (drivers side) is 3959512. Which shows up as a 62-67 327. And the vin # from front (alternater) side is V1008XI. Which shows a 69 350. Any ideas?

My engine code suffix book says the XI at the end of V1008XI designates the engine as 69 350 truck engine rated at 215 HP and a manual trans. The V is for the Flint engine assembly plant. The 10 is the assembly month (october) and the 08 is the assembly day.

Thats what i read in my book. But I just dont unerstand why one code says its a 327 block and the vin says a 350. I guess its a replacement block or a left over and built a 350 in 69 out of it. I'll just say its a 350. i'll probley never know unless i rip it open. It doesn't really matter the truck was free and with a work it'll be a nice truck. It sat for two years never started and i put a new battery in it, little either and fired right up. Sound really healthy.

Is it possible the suffix is a poorly stamped XE? That would go with the 63 327.... just a thought
No matter where you go....there you are!
