    383 Whattaya think?

My goal here is to make a 383 that will make between 400 and 450 horsies. If I use good quality parts, and don't take any shortcuts (i'm not talking about buying the best of the best, but not using junk parts is what i mean) How reasonable is that number from a 383? No n2o, blowers, turbos ect.

With good heads and a hyd. roller cam this should be no problem.400 h.p. can be made on a hyd. cam.

is there any issues to putting a roller stick in a 70's model block? What other parts are required to "fit" with the roller stick? I.E> do i need roller lifters/rockers?

Also what do u guys think about these heads?

    Mowtowns!!!

I'm looking at the very first set of heads on that link.

For the hp you want, roller setup cost isn't justified. A reasonable hydraulic flat tappet will do with a decent set of heads. Retro fit hydraulic roller lifters run about $400+ and the cams run around $250+

You need roller rockers no matter what. Those 220 heads are way too big. Heads in the 180cc--200cc will be all that's needed on a 383cid. 400--450hp is pretty obtainable with a 383. Here's a base combo just as reference:

    10.2:1 CR
    Performer RPM Air-Gap
    Race Rite 180cc -- 67cc
    Comp XE284H

That will make a torquey engine and the roller setup would make more if you got the extra cash.

My brother has 383 with world heads, He is still looking for a little more power, not sure on compression ratio or solid cam grind. But machine shop told him around 400-450 horse. What would be the best way to go, aluminum heads or roller cam. How much is each and what kind of power can he expect out of each.

Nevermind, I was going to tell the board that I might have sold my truck today,

If so that would bring my build budget up to $2000 roughly for the motor.

I was gonna post the build i had in mind but i've had a terrible day and i don't feel like thinking right now.
