how about this one fast times was at a track and my friend started talking to the guy that built this engine in this car that was running. my friend would not leave the poor guy alone so he said ask away on the engine. on the crank ? the reply was yes it has one. on the heads how big are the valves ? the reply yes it has them to . on the rods how long ? yes it has them to and they are the right size get it

I was offering Young at least an alternative to build Eric, what have you done to try and help him in this thread?? Nothing.
How about helping instead of trying to tear someone down?
I triple up the plastigage if need be and then mike it, because it's easier to clean up then clay.
If your such a great engine builder than how about some help for Young and less rabble rousing?

Hey,I know Why don't you go back and read the very first page where I made a post.I tried to explain to him it was un-realistic to try and build as 421 for $3,000.Why even start on a project when $3,000 will only really build the bottom end.You must of missed that one.I have never said I was a great engine builder only people on this forum have said that.When people post complete and utter B.S. I tend to respond in a different manner.Here is a little tip for all of you.You can write this down if you want.You can not stack any plasti- gauge with any degree of accuracy.We are talking about .060 on the intake side at the very least for piston to valve clearance.Now how many piece's of plast-gauge would that be?Am I helping now?.

what happened to the speech about letting it go, and moving on? cant do it can you? you don't have to stack it up, you said you screwed the valve down until it hit, so you know what the "how much" is when it hits, you don't know where, and the plastergauge will tell you that. when you pull the head back off. then you'll know for sure where the valve hits the piston. its better than nothing. i think thats what hambiskit is talking about. i know he has worked with some of the best round track builders on the east coast. it comes in sticks up to 0.500mm that i know of.

I know where it hits because I use machinist lay-out dye.The thick plastigauge goes to .070.I am un-sure what that is in metric.

Thanks Mike- but your tossing pearls to swine, save your breath on that one. I know that back home we call them educated fools, he could learn something if his mouth wouldn't get in the way of his brain. Although he seems to make friends where-ever he goes - doesn't he?
He should at least read the first thread before he makes a comment, did you notice that he still can't understand that Young's building a 327?
There are many ways to build a 327 that can be done with 3k, and I'm the only one that offered a build.
Eric, thank-you for calling me Denny, I think that he's one of the best mechanic's on here, along with Pat, and Mike, so if you want to throw me into that group I'd be glad to be included.

Now where is it that you fit in?? I haven't seen you offer any real info to help anybody here - only cutting remarks, and a self rightous attitude that you seem to think you are better than everyone else, and it seems to me that you only want to start trouble.
Try offering constructive alternatives instead of most of the crap you post, and you won't spend as much time explaining yourself. Which looks like to me is 90% of your post's.

which is thicker, dye, or .070 plastergauge? you also said "It sure sounds like a lot of work taking the heads on and off the engine" so i assumed from that you didnt use anything, because it was to much trouble to pull the heads off to check????
