1980 chevy 350 small block motor problems

chevy short wide that i just put a rebuilt 350 in. i noticed sparks coming from the ends of the plug wires. i changed the wires and cap but it is still happening. anyone have any recommendations? it has also been running rich, i adjusted the idle mixture screws on my edelbrock carb but cant get it right. it is causing it to run sluggish and almost dying at stop lights. sometimes when i give it too much gas it cuts out. any help would be appreciated

Try some dielectric grease inside of your plug boots, you said you just installed the motor, it sounds like you might have the distributor installed incorrectly, therefore your timing might be off. I would look at the ignition system before messing around with the carb, you said its runnning rich so I would believe its not firing properly. Most Edlelbrock carbs run perfectly right out of the box, but if you find the ignition system operationg properly just give Edelbrock tech a call they can probably help you out. hope I pointed you in the right direction.
