light rust on crank
ok my crank has a little bit of rust on it. i mean not where any bearings go just where it hits the oil in the pan. can i just sand it off? or if i leave it how bad is it for the motor?

If its not on ANY of the journals, I'd just sand it down and then when your done make sure it gets as clean as possible. Blow the oiling holes out and stuff with some carb cleaner and air because that rust can get in those holes too. Then what do u have? Bearing issues, that's what.
I dunno that it'd trust putting a rusty crank in my engine, especially if it's a high performance engine.

Yeah, it's no big deal, just sand off the rust and then follow Hopper's lead with cleaning it well before installation.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

you want to run a brush thru all oil holes in the crank. and if there rust on the counterweights try a 3M red pad on them wash with soap or some thing that will not dry fast re brush and re wash blow out and off with air

Yup, WD-40 and a Scotch Brite.... Then a brush through the oil holes and a really good solvent bath.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

haha thanks guys
I tried rubber isolators between the frame and pump, but it made little difference. I don't mind spinning the motor over to refill the carb(s), it allows time to build oil pressure, jmho..
