    Unhappy Roller camshaft

    Hi all of you,
I've got another probably pointless question. But it's the first time I'm installing a roller cam and I want to do it right, those things are expensive.
I have a mechanical fuel pump (stock GM) and the cam (a Comp Cams XR258-HR) has a fuel pump lobe on it. Can I use the stock pump push rod or must I use a rollerized or ceramic-tipped one? I've heard that a special push rod should be used, but is it mandatory?
    Thanks a lot,
    Max

PS: I bought the cam second hand and the previous owner doesn't have any manuals or anything with it. All I have is the spec-sheet and installation guide Comp Cams provide online. There they say you should use a special pushrod, but I couldn't find a firm here in Germany that even knew of the existence of rollerized fuel pump pushrods...

i would use and have used the bronzed tip one if your cam is a steel core ? if so you do not want to go with a steel push rod . if the core of your cam is iron the you can go with the steel one .

OK, so I've found out this much: Steel camshaft means I have to use a bronze or roller tipped pushrod, iron means I can use the stock one. Now I checked out other forums, and some say the Cams ending in "-8" are iron. Others say the end number doesn't mean a thing. On the Comp Cams website it says it's made from "special material". Now wth is special material? I can't find an email-adress to contact Comp either...
Does anyone know for sure what this cam is made of?
    Thanks a lot,
    Max

Accourding to Comp Cams all of the cams with a -9 is billet stock and the -8 is a alloy(special material) and better heat treating for the higher spring pressuers and you can use the stock push rod and distributor drive gear. A search of that # you have came back with Comp Cams Chevy 262-400 Xtreme Energy XR258HR Cam pt# 8-408-8. I'm running the 8-422-8 and I'm using the the stock fuel pump rod and no problems. Is the block you have a factory hydrolic roller motor?

Yeah, I guess I'll go for the Pizza and beer
Won't be much left for big girls, though
Ah, well, I seem to have found the point where I say: Comp wants me to buy an expensive part, although I don't need it. So I'm not going to buy it.
Thanks a lot for your help, if my fuel pump lobe on the cam goes in 80 k miles, THEN I'll upgraqde to an electric pump
