    Two cars, two engines

     



    Hey Guys

    I have two GM marine #14093638 5.7 blocks with #14096217 heads and #14096242 high rise intakes with Holley 715 double pumpers just removed from my 32' sport cruiser.(replacing them with turbo diesels)

    I am doing a frame off of my 81 4 speed vette and want to build a decent sb around 300 hp. The heads are good for 300, I know. Any suggestions for the rest of the components to get me there?

    Also, I am thinking of putting the other engine into my 90 Cadillac brougham (now has 307 ). What can I do to boost the Caddys git up n' go and still keep it dignified

    The profile of a Marine cam is very similar to a truck grind, as the engine is designed to peak out at about 4600 rpms. You will want to change the cam to a better profile to bring the rpms up somewhat.

    I am also going to use a '99 Vortec in my new project, a marine version, too. So I plan on using a hotter roller cam in it.

    If you don't, your car will sound and run like a boat.

    If your two engines came from the same boat, isnt one a reverse rotation version? GM Marine lists a reverse rotation 350. Some of these even have seals designed to go the wrong way, the cam is of course wrong, etc.

    Put the reverse rotation one in the Caddy and put the car in reverse to go forward! This would be cool for the valet parking nimrods to figure out.

    Yeah, the cam is a definite. Want to try and stay on a reasonable budget as I'm also swapping turbo diesels in the BOAT(bring on another thousand)

    The cruiser has two counter-rotating duoprop outdrives which allows both engines to rotate clockwise.

    Man, you are a real glutton for punishment. Playing with cars and boats at the same time.

    I lose interest in cars from time to time, and get into boats and fishing. Then I flip back to liking cars and don't fish for years on end. But there is one similarity between the two.......................THEY BOTH COST A WHOLE LOT OF $$$$$$.

    I work in the service dept of a marina, so I am kind of turned off on boats right now. (kind of like the guy who works in the doughnut factory probably never eats one of the things) When I worked in a body shop, going home to work on my car was the furthest thing from my mind. I had my fill of cars all day long.

    You are going to take a real hit on those turbo diesels, but years down the road you will reap the benefits. They make so much more sense in a boat like that.

    PS: Those Volvo Duo-props are really good units. Bet you love them. By the way, pull and grease your inner prop OFTEN. Otherwise they freeze in place, and need a die cutter to get the hubs off.
