Hey guys! This morning I just sarted the engine I installed in my 72' It will not crank at the proper timing and if you retard it to the point it cranks over it runs like crap and wants to die. I have a starter off an older truck (like a 1978 or so) dose the newer engine require a higher torqe starter or i somthing wrong. Thanks?

I tried starting it the way I took it out but it had no starter so I put this older one on it. I do not know what the initial timing and the total advance is set at. Yes all the connections and battery is good. But the battery alone wont crank it over I have to have the battery and charger hooked up and on boost to role it over. The battery has 975 cca.
