    Firing problem

I have a 68 chevy with what I am almost positive is a 350 in it. I went to replace all the plugs and wires on the HEI distributor but when I did so the whole thing went to crap. I hooked up all the new wires to the right ports on the distributor going to the right cylinders; 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, and nothing, it just cranks and no fire. Now up the creek I dont know if perhaps I have the wires on the wrong ports on the distributor, what can I do to correct this? I know the firing order is clockwise on the distributor, the one thing is that the distributor is not marked so maybe I have #1 in the wrong spot, this is what I think is going on. Please help.

You might also check to see if you're getting a spark too. You might have pulled something loose changing out the wires.

hay guys: another thing that you may want to try is ckeck that you have spark at the spark plug wires when you turn the engine over. then do the # 1 thing as stated, another thing is when you check the # 1 for firing order the dist rotor should be pointing towards the front of the engine at about 5 oclock on the dist ,and that should put you pointing to the #1 cyl (about). one more thing that you can check is the dist cap, make sure that the screws for the coil are not too long, that will short the spark to ground. good luck.wrenchd
