base timing set with vac. disconnected 650 rpm , idle mixture was set at 1000rpm

okay went out set timing at 10 and set carb. mixture at 550 rpm , all i get is black smoke when i rev it up,rev it up slow or fast black smoke,doesn,t seem to be flooding,idle steady, no excess fuel in carb (throat),no leakage or dripping of gas, float level too high or need jet change ? fuel pump is 5.5 psi
new edlebrock 1406 ?

Hi Guys, I am new here, but read the forum alot, great info here. I did notice above soup said he had the vac. advance hooked to the intake. That would be full vac. and timing at idle wouldn't it? Which would change all idle characteristics at idle. Shouldn't it be on ported vac. at carb?

playing on the street, and i just put vac advance back on ported, going to try it ,
