Engine help for a Chevy novice
hey everyone. i need some help. im starting a project of putting in a SBC into a Porsche 914. my own little hotrod project. but the transmission i will be using cannot take over 300 hp / 300 ft torque. what engine would you recommend i start with. is a 283 to small, or a 350 to big, should i try a 327. any recomendations would be great. thanks

go with a minor built up 283, they have a shorter stroke and wind up quicker like an original porsche engine... they're a little less torquey but torque is more what will damage your transmission than HP.....just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

I agree, go with the 283. You can build it pretty hot and not exceed those specs. The throttle response and max rpm's will make you happy in such a light car.
The first model car I built was a 32 Ford roadster by Revell in the mid 50's.
How did you get hooked on cars?
