intake swap
Hi, everybody. Just a quick ? about holley intake. I was thinking of switching from the weiand action+ 8004 I have to the holley 300-36 dual plane intake.
Am running a holley 600 vac. sec. now and think this would be a better match-up for what I have. Have a Summitt cam-204 in- 214 ex duration and 420 in-442 ex lift. This might change if I get the 1.6 roller tips installed. Does this sound like it would all work together? This will be about as far as I go until I can get some better heads. Thanks for any and all thoughts on how this might perform for a daily driver that is looking for a little more zip in tooling around town.

Save your money for the heads. I would not do anything until I had the new heads, and I would purchase an intake that would be a good match for the combination. You are not going to gain enough to warrant your proposed intake change.

I agree with Lynn. The Holley is a bit larger port size which you may or may not need. It claims performance to 7200 rpm but very few street engines really need this. Yoy would really need a pretty darn good roller cam set-up, more cam, and really nice heads to think about taking full advantage of this capability, and this is assuming your bottom end is suited for it as well. I'd wait until I bought my heads; treat it incrementally.

thanks, guys. Guess I"ll wait and chase down some heads first but I've been catching a lot of cautions about the action+ manifolds and have been having a hard time keeping mine sealed up. Oil seeping around the intake bolts- yes i did use a thread sealer when I tourqued them down- and seem to be sucking air and it's not from carb base. Thinking it might be from intake possibally, besides not being real impressed with it. Thanks for giving me a working order to run off of. Maybe I'm going backwards but you know how us southpaws are.

If its leaking vacuum, chuck it. Too hard on valves and such to warrant putting up with it.

Ya, that's what led me to thinking of changing but wasn't sure what to go to. Holley says that intake is good from ildle on up with good low and mid-range so it seemed like a good choice to me.

If you stay with those heads and carb and plan on street performance then do stay with a dual plane. The aftermarket 'survives' literally,,,on street performance vehicles. And test after test proves you need a dual plane high-rise maybe like the RPM Performer/and or airgap.Don't take my word do the research and see.If you want a lower cost intake that is good for low/mid RPM erformance then the Torker11 isn't bad.But again,,,these are 'street' intakes but that sounds like what you want?Hey has that thing gotta Heme in it? No, it's a shevy not heme!
