327 distributor cap to spark plug problems
I own a 1956 chevy bel air. It has a 327 w/ aftermarket heads on it. When I was changing the distributor and wires, I put a piece of masking tape with its number on each wire as it correspondes with the spark plug. The next day due to the humdity all of the pieces of tape fell off. Now im at a stand still untill i figure out what wire goes to what plug. Any help would be great!

This site shows you the firing order, cylinder location ad rotation of distributor. That should help you out.

I have almost a complete set of Motors Manuals and quit a few Chiltons. Along with GM & Ford Shop manuals . Never have enough information. People would be surprised at how much dosen't change. When I worked at Reynolds I was in the mobile equiptment shop for 5 years. Every year when we got new books I got the old ones. Beleave me a 20 or 30 year old book can be a great help working on this older stuff.Charlie

I am constantly amazed at the tremendous pool of talent and knowledge that us old guys (55 to 70 year olds) have. I get kind of crazy when I hear our government telling us that "we must open up immigration to keep our technological edge". Granted, some of us are on some kind of pension, and don't want to work, but there is a whole lot of us that would be "helping maintain the technical edge" if there wasn't such a bias in the workplace against anyone over 50.Old guy hot rodder

Brian
I retired in 94 moved here and started my own construction bussines after 12 years of that I'm trying to retire again but people keep calling so I turn down all but my past coustomers and a few of them also. I havent advertised in over 2 years. Before I left the plant I was offered positions in other areas of the country but I just had enough working 7/12s + a few 16s and 24s thrown in. I opted to just GO. Made a bunch of people upset at me but I sure they got over it. We were given equiptment (the company bought & paid to have installed and then told to make it work) we had to reengineer a lot of it. By the time the instalation was done the computers to run it were out dated. I don't think I could take all that B/S anymore. The money was great but the only one that got to spend it was the wife and she had NO PROBLEMS in that area. heres a shot of one of the lines I maintained and continusly modified. Cars are a lot easier.Charlie

ccfisher--Very impressive looking line. Your right, cars are easier. I'm not retiring yet, hope to work for 5 years more. Right now my business is flat on its butt, however thats the nature of the design engineering business. Everybody's on plant shut-down and holidays, so my work won't pick up again untill fall.---Damn good thing I got a rich wifeOld guy hot rodder
