Wieand 144 Blower Q's
Ok heres the deal. my dad wants some more power out of his C10, it's a 350 8.5:1 Q jet 4bbl 260 HP just as it left the line except a GM HEI distributor and he wants more power out of it, at the Syracuse Nationals he saw a Mid year vet with a Small block and 1 of the 144 blowers and fit under the hood with no problems, and the stock hood, just had a low rise air cleaner so, he was thinking about spending the 2k for the blower and getting the respectable 100 HP as advertised. what would we need to do? the truck has power brakes and a couple of vac lines that run into the cab which we think is for the heater, how would we keep the vac for these things?. will the 144 blower clear the HEI dizzy? Thanks in advanceYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

My dad read on the wieand website that the 144's make boost at idle, I think he was mis reading a boost chart so I'm going to have to look myself.
edit. I just looked, they do not have a boost chart that I could find, what they did have is a troubleshooting guide and 1 of the troubleshoots was " Engine has vac at low RPM " and it said it was normal when not under boost. right there compleatly confirms what mike said, now all I got to do is show him so he belives it . if he runs a vac can with a check valve behind it, that will give him the vac he needs right? thanksLast edited by Matt167; 07-21-2006 at 04:10 PM.

if you have 16" of vac. on your stock intake, take it off, bolt a blower on, you still have 16" of vac.Mike

Yep it will fit i have a MSD extreeme HEI with the coil on top of the dizzy and it fits fine . As faras vacuum i have no problems what so ever getting vacuum for my brakes hooked them up to the supercharger itself .
There is a spot where the carb mounts a threaded hole that i put a 1$ adapter on and hooked my vacuum line to it for brakes .
I DO RECOMEND A BLOWER CARB ITS A MUST HAVE ITEM !!!!! I ran a 670 holley street avenger it was well ok id say untill i got my 750 demon blower carb wow what a difference its a weiand 144 supercharger also in a small datsun 280z took my 220 crank horses and put down 318 to the crank now and 260 to the tire all this at 6,000 ft above sea level .

You probably will want to send your distributor to a shop like Bob Jennings Dyno and have it recurved. The process is not expensive, but it really helps. Blower motors like lots of initial advance[ usually 14 to 16 degrees], fairly quick advance , and only about 36 degrees total, sometimes less depending on how much boost you are running. When a company advertises a certain amount of boost, they are usually expressing wide open throttle and 6000 rpm. Roots type blowers make boost all the time and extra torque all the time. but less at lower rpm, so an engine that would normally have 16 in. of vac at 1500 rpm might show 14 inches.
