Help with 350
Just put the 350 back together. It is in a 73 3/4 ton 2wd pickup with no stall converter. It has -23cc dish pistons in it, its a reman motor from advance auto parts. It has 3998991 heads on it 75cc chambers redone with z28 springs. Installed a Lunati Voodoo cam in it 638-60101lk .454"/.468" lift 256/262 dur. dur at .050" 213/219 LSA/ICL 112/108 it says its a 1000-5500 rpm cam. Its got a Professional Products Crosswinds intake sitting on top of it with an electric choke edelbrock 600 cfm carb. A Wapp Distributor, looks like a MSD and headers. I don't know if the compression is too low with these pistons in it but this combo ran great on a 350 with flat top pistons. I'm not sure what to set my timing at. I think its at 10 degrees advance now with 15 vacuum for 25 total. If I keep advancing it it gets more power but its harder to start. Can someone help?If I knew anything I'd be dangerous.

if your total adv.is only 25 degrees, then that means your mechanical adv. is not but 15 degrees and thats not enough. you need to fix that first, you can't keep adding base timing to get the total you want, anything around 12 degrees base is all you want, do its not gonna start. take the rotor button off and make sure the mechanical weights are free.Mike

You might even want to buy a curve kit to get the mechanical advance coming in sooner. At the very least,as it has already been said, pull the rotor, and check out the weights, springs and bushings. A dab of lube on the pins and bushings, and a dab on those plastic supports under the weights wouldn't hurt. Hank

Do you think it's really hurting me that I have -23cc dish pistons and big chamber heads? If I knew anything I'd be dangerous.

Those are not large chamber heads and your C/R is still low. This engine is really well set-up for a mild blower (8 psi) , but it should run OK for you with the advance straightened out.
