    Ways to Amplify a Cam....

So after realizing that I was an a**hole for basing most of my build off a 355, and I went with a 383, ive got a pretty mild cam. Then I thought about it, and I was already having trouble with the fit of the cam due to the contact with the rods, so a bigger cam really isnt the solution here. Im running 1.6 rockers now, and am thinking about selling them and going 1.8 or 1.85. Will this amplify the cam? Help make up for the larger engine? From what I hear, it does, but is this a "legit" way of doing it? Any other ways to make up for that? Thanks guys.

I recall this problem you were having with this from another thread, you allready had the crankand rods balanced before getting them ground for clearance. So as you say this does restrict you in your cam selection. As for amplifying through rocker arm ratio up to 1.65 you can get away with it on the stock geometry. But 1.7 and higher you either need to move the rocker arm stud or maybe go For the expensive shaft mounted rocker system, and even then you are going to have excessive valve gyide wear. Maybe the other option is to go for a roller cam combo with long duration and mild lift, but that will probably make the power band peaky. So these issues alone with the expense involved Could Force you to grind and rebalance the rods and to put it down to experience.

I agree with this.By going to a different rocker arm ratio you will have to go to shaft mount rockers $750 please or more.Buy a small base circle cam.You will be much happier.

A few of you guys recomended that to me when I was having the cam hitting hte rods problem. You need to use a longer pushrod correct? And I can pick which cam I would like to use, and have the manufacturer, say comp, do it for a fee. Looks liek thats the way im going to go. Sooner or later I hope, Im really upset that I let somethign as stupid as that pass me lol. Live and learn

To find out what length push-rods you need you will have to buy an adustable push rod length checking tool.
