I had a similar problem on the roadster pickup when I built it. I used an alternator mount from "Horton Enterprises" that lifts the alternator a bit higher and swings it over into the area between the top rad hose and the passenger side valve cover. This does not leave a tremendous amount of contact area between the waterpump drive pulley and the v-belt, but I have driven the rpu for 2 summers now, and never experienced any cooling issues.

I've seen some good quality low mount alternator brackets, too.. I usually just fab my own and put the alternator where I want it....

    Alt Bracket

I had the same problem on my 39 International. I found a Moroso bracket that bolts on the passenger side that clears the tall valve covers. I am also using a power steering pump from Sweet. It is a gen 2 that I am mounting on the head. If you go that way I have a couple of extra brackets for the pump.

I am running a ZZ4 crate with a ZZ430 cam, Tunnel Ram with twin 450s, Dart Pro 1 heads with 200 runners and all of the other speed stuff. I also built a 4 link with QA1 coil overs and 4 wheel disc brakes. Keith in Missouri
