engine specs
I just acquired a 57 willys cj5 with a 283. engine needs some minor work but I don't nkow where it came from. Where can I find out some specs as far as a tune-up goes ( spark plug gap, points..etcc) I am having some difficulty with the engine ID numbers. Any standard repair manual I can get? thanks...new to club hot rod

If it's a Chevy 283, set the plug gap at .035, Stock distributer dwell should be 30 degrees which figures to a gap of about .018. Try the timing at 4 BTDC. These motrs are real easy to tune.
Good luck with it, sounds like fun
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Try searching on www.google.com for 283 engine manual. I got quite a few hits that dealt with it.
