It's been done. Try Google for "Carburated LT-1"
- Buy a manifold and a carb.
- Get rid of the front mounted distributor and install a cover plate. It used to be P/N 123676000, but that part doesn't seem to be listed anymore.
- Remove the oil pump drive and replace it with a distributor with a hardened gear
- Install a timing pointer on the engine and timing tape on the balancer (it isn't marked.)

Unless you're building a full-out race engine, I would take the Optispark off and install the cover plate (if you can find one), then use a good HEI distributor. I believe that a camshaft that fits any roller-cam Chevy small block (87-up) will fit the LT-1. For example, I use the GMPP "Hot Cam" with 1.6 rockers in my street rod, which has a Gen 1 Fast Burn 385, and in my '93 Corvette LT-1. Check with the cam supplier first, though.Jack

What kind of idle do you get from the GMPP "Hot Cam"?
I am looking for a rough idle. I am starting to think I should sell this LT-1 that I have and just go with the Gen 1 350,since I am not going to use the fuel inj. and the opti spark.

Why do you want a rough idle? The WOW factor? I'd rather have the engine run and make power than impress someone standing on the curb with my idle sound.
The GMPP Hot Cam has a bit of a lope, and you can tell that the engine is "cammed." It's very streetable and will put a roller-cammed Gen I with fast burn heads easily over 400 HP.
It will do the same thing with an LT-1 with good heads and the right setup.Jack

Wow factor
You know what they say its better to look good then feel good. Just kidding. i just want it to sound tuff , the speed part of it might just get me in trouble. Hey if i can get both that would be fine with me. I just dont know if I need a 400 hp engine will do in a 32 coupe.
