Green Mechanic
Hi All,
This is my first post, I'm looking forward to the conversations. I'm a pretty green mechanic, but enthusiastic.
Here's what I have: 1986 GMC S-15 with a rebuilt 350 (about ten years ago) with a Holley 650 vacuum assist carb, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, kit headers and radiator, turbo 350 trans, aluminum drive shaft, Holley electric fuel pump.
The truck has not been driven in about a year, before that it was my brother's daily driver for 7 years.
I got it here, battery was dead, replaced it, it started quick and strong. A short drive around the block, stalled at 3 of 3 stop signs. In the driveway, would not idle without giving it gas. Now it just won't start at all.
There is no fuel filter, I pulled the inlet line to the fuel pump, it's clean. Pulled the fuel line into the carb, turned key, fuel pumps out fine. A shot of starting fluid into the carb did run it for a second or two.
My question is this: What is my next step? It has a Mallory distributor, but I had ruled out spark issues because it did run with the starting fluid...

You say it sat for a year. I'd do a rebuild on the carb its probably all gummed up You may want to change the oil too. Check all the fluid levels and maybe the trans filter and fluid. Check your brake fluid and breaksCharlie
Lovin' what I do and doing what I love
Some guys can fix broken NO ONE can fix STUPID
