    283 Qs?????.... !!!

alright i have a 283... block number is 3896944 , heads number is 814480 , crank number is 3876768 as for the rest of it rods, pistons.. ect i dont know anything else but the pistons just have 2 valve reliefs and the center is raised... not flat tops as of now i am putting on gm performance vortech heads, performer intake, and a voodoo cam specs on the cam are 262 duration and 468 lift 1400 - 5800 rpm im really just wondering what you guys think that it will do performance wise and how it will act on the street... btw.. the tranny is 700r4 and 4.10 gears in the back all under a 4200 lb. truck any input would be nice .. !! thanx

Tim, see if you can find a manufacturer's number on the pistons anywhere. If not, at least use a dial caliper and measure the height of the pop-up from the base crown of the piston to the top of the pop-up. How far will the piston be down in the bore at TDC when the motor is assembled? (deck height). Will it be at zero deck (crown of the piston even with the block deck) or will the piston be down in the bore slightly? How far? Do you know what head gasket you're gonna use yet? Don't buy head gaskets until you answer back about the deck height. Did you have Lunati choose the cam or did you spec it yourself using the dynamic compression ratio method?

The 4.10 gear will help to move the truck but the 283 will really be put to the test.
I would also look into getting a looser stall converter this to will help.

how high of stall??? also i will be driving this on the street and at 60 mph is about 2100 - 2300 rpm... ( i dont have my speedo hooked up yet.. lol) so if i go with a stall higher than that.., wont that effect my driving speed or wont it keep slipping at cruizing speed/?

What stall speed does the cam maker recommend?

Using a 262 cam, you could squeak by with a stock converter but the car will be easier to drive with a little looser converter, like maybe 1,800 to 2,000 stall. That's just my opinion.
