Box stock smog heads eh ? Team them up with a good cam and decent pistons should give you the street motor of your wish.

check them for cracks and valve guide wear and weak springs and replace the seals. Check around a few machinists to get get a reasonable price for crack testing and machining.

Much, much better than 305 heads, the 882's have bigger ports and valves and flow more than the 305 heads. The 882's also have a chamber that works with the 350's 4 inch bore. Oh yeah the chamber size is 76 cc's and in standard stock motor form they give 8.5 to one compression ratio.
So how far art you going with the rebuild ?
like giving it a rebore and new pistons, grind or polish the crank, rebuild or replace the rods, definitely a new cam lifters and springs. And if you want more compression with flat top pistons deck the block to get rid of the squish.

The 350 was rebuilt 30K ago so I was told. I was told it was a 350 4 bolt main. I was going to redue the top end. The I spotted the 305 heads. The block is an 010 block

Okay, all sounds good so far, are the 882 heads good ? Any idea what cam is in it and do you know if they are flat top pistons. What type of manifild and carb are you running ? Then what type of trans ? auto or manual ? and rear end gear ratio, and type of car or truck it is in ? Sorry about all the questions, but the more info you can give the more we can help you to achieve your goals.

Not sure of the pistons yet. Bought a 280H magnum top end kit. New Edelbrock torker manifold with the 750 carb. 400 trans with 373 rear. Shift kit and 2800 stall speed converter to follow.

Sounds like you are off to a great start. That is a 750 Holley vac sec list 3310 carb I suppose ?, good choice. With that rear end ratio it should allow the engine to wind out and the gearbox mods are a good idea as well. Running headers or course. And with the pickup being light in the rear it should fry up the tyres well.

As they all start as a cheap build. They turn into $$$. But its the price you pay for sanity at times. Was looking to tweak the top end and make a tire burner for my kids. My son is 12 and has been getting involved which makes me proud and happy!

Yep, I will agree with that, they start cheap, then we go shopping ! Had a look at the specs on that Torker manifold could only find a torker 2 rev range is 2500 to 6500 revs, like I mentioned before those rear end gears will let the motor rev that high. But I would not leave the revs up there for to long, because it is only a stock shortblock. Good that your son is getting involved it will be a learning curve for both of you. I had David my oldest son climbing over me and changing camshafts and lifters when he was 8, you guessed it he is now going well as a mechanic in an auto workshop.
