main cap mixed up
Called the machine shop today to check on my block. I did not mark my mains but they were in there correct positions when I took the block to be bored. He did not mark them, now he is going to have to torque and gauge them to try and match the caps where they go. So should he charge me for that? or should we split the cost since we both failed to mark them?

marking caps
Just my own view of it but the machine shop does this kind of work as a profession and should allways keep track of this sort of thing. Seems rather careless for the shop to neglect keeping something like this in order. Not to say anything negative about the place or person(s) as I don't know them but an oversight like that should fall back on them. I think if you have a polite but firm conversation with them about it they would end up agreeing. Again, just my personal view of it.

Yeah I did not mention anything about it, he was telling me he would "have to do it". I told him "yeah you are going to have to do it". he said most people mark them before they bring it and I feel I should have but I too feel he should have checked. I could hear in his tone he knew it was his fault since he was making the excuss that everbody else marks them.

The machinist knows he screwed up. I would go on just as if it never happened as you ain't getting charged for it. Nothing good will come from busting the guy's juevos over it.
BTW I thought it was fairly common to have a block line honed? It ain't expensive and it's the best way to make sure the bearings are lined up correctly. Who knows what they are nowe or where they really were from the factory?
