Well, just wondering where I have been going wrong on my setups, Erik. Seems to take me a lot more gear and a lot lighter car to hit the 11's.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I dunno, must be better air and traction in Kansas, huh???? My last 2700 pound Maverick with the 347 stroker never even got out of the 12's, but it did great wheelies if you got crazy with the ladder bars!!!!!!!
BTW Erik, both the BB Ford cars were firmly in the 10's this year. Learned a lot with them on the chassis dyno last spring, Roger and Rodney were both very satisfied with their performance. They're thinking about going to the big bracket race in Bradenton, Fl., believe it's in February??? Non electronics bracket is supposedly going to pay 5K to win both days this year!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yup, if I could stay healthy for more that a month at a time I might give some serious thought to another bracket car. Some leisurly Sunday afternoons at Thunder Valley might be a lot of fun again....
Only reason I never ran the electronics classes is the double crossover delay boxes confuse the heck out of me!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

With one that's not familar with "double crossover delay boxes" what do they pertain to. I've haven't raced anything since 1962 except took my 37 out last year for two passes.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Well, ya better get somebody that actually understands the dang things to explain it.... All I know about them is they are expensive and only work on automatics.... I'm one of the fools that still likes to bang gears, even in a bracket car....... I've heard all the arguments about consistency with a five speed, I guess I've just been shiftin' em for enough years that I manage to maintain good consistency, not counting the first test and tune day in the spring when I have to work all the rusty joints loose in my right arm!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I had a little help from my boss in the setup. he campaigned a t/a dragster with a sbc and a glide. My boat wasn't a very reliable street car. 11.5 comp long rods, dart heads, dynoed over 500 ponies, was nos ready, backed by a 400 with 3000 stall and everything but the interior was stripped. weighed ~2700 iirc, it was 8 years ago when I sold it. I have a friend with a consistant 11 second SS, street driven slicks on the weekends, simple 406 with proper setup. There are plenty 9 and 10 second 5.0s out there, makes my old pos really not that impressive.

Here is a sound clip of my 335" stroker. its in a 1981 GMC Caballero Diablo
its recorded in my carport, bit of an echo, few blasts to 6k. and idle
http://media.putfile.com/soundclip-38
parts used:
400 crank, 350 rods, flat top pistons.
221 @ .050" 471" lift cam 108 LSA
fully ported and polished "416" castings, with larger 1.94" intakes
edelbrock torker singleplane intake with 600 vac. sec. carb
hooker super comp headers 2 1/2" into flowmaster 40's dumped before axle
th400 with 3000 stall convertor
3.73 auburn pro posi rear.
I have only driven the car 3 times on the street, weight is around 3100 lbs. No a/c or any ducting....fiberglass hood.....anxiously awaiting spring and summer to test at track. the car is very responsive, roasts the heck out of the tires 255 50r 15 bf goodrich comp t/a's. Pulls hard above 3500 rpm. The whole car was built on a tight budget by myself, the clearancing aspect must be done with care, especially the bottom of the piston below the pin boss to clear the counterweights on the crank....look for at least .040", and small base circle camshaft must also be used.Last edited by 81 cabellero; 12-03-2006 at 12:17 PM.
