4.3 Twin Turbo
YES GM 4.3 TT. Go ahead flame away.
The way I see it these days VERY few people have the balls to try new things and look outside the box. New trends dont start by doing what every other joe bubba can do with a open bank account and half a brain.
Yes, I could go V8 but I have been there done that a few times with very very good luck. The main reason for me going with the 4.3 and Twin Turbo is size & pounds its going in a 240Z Datsun.
Yes I know all too well V-8s fit. But thats far to much LBS for the Z to still be good in the turns. I have put miles on a few V8 Z's and there far to front heavy.
I am looking for anyone that has done a hot 4.3. Any extra info up front would be helpfull . The way I understand it the 4.3 is just a 350 with the front two cyl. cut off. I know about the early 4.3 with the balance shaft.
I just had a 5.7 & 4.3 side by side down to bare block. I didnt see anything that didnt match. I used a T gauge and found a match other then .015 for the CYL. size.
The main thing I am looking for is info on custom cranks and camshafts. The way I see it I am just going to get the parts I want. Pistons rods lifters and so on for a 5.7 and have spare parts left over and prob. for less then if it was ordered for a v-6.
A big thanks to anyone that can give any helpful info Heck even a heads up on good book on this would be nice.

Miiii-aaaahhm-uhh,hh Ok reporting in
Streets: A man with your knowledge should be able to whip up a set of headers in short order. Chroming is no big deal.
Back to the subject of the thread. May I interest you in something slightly lighter and more exotic than the 4.3? How about a buick/olds/pontiac/rover aluminum block V8? They are VERY light and would respond extremely well to turbocharging.

P.S. GAWD I love turbos

Thought of that. The down side there is the cost of parts. You can buy 5.7 hot rod parts for next to nothing vs. the more exotic motors. Thats the main reason I am all about the 4.3. Ease of finding parts and cost. Being there just a 350 with two less cyl. you can do almost any piston\rod combo you could think of with little to no headache. I just need to find out more for the crank prob.Rules of the game fast, good, cheap pick any 2

Hey there, I'm new, and glad to listen in. Sorry, I'm a muscle car motorhead, but I've always had a place in my heart for you Custom and Hot Rod guys.
I too want to do a turbo 4.3, to slip into my 82 Chevette. Right now it's lowered 3" but the motor doesn't come close to the performance of the handling. I want to keep it Chevy and am quite familiar with making small block C's fast, so the 4.3 was a natural choice. I too am interested in any info I can get, and will post here anything I find out. Good to meet you guys.
If any of you have Novas, check out the message board on www.2quicknovas.com-Ben

You know, I'm wondering how close in weight the 4.3 and an aluminum head/intake SBC are. If they are close, by the time you add the weight of the turbo system you might be withing a few pounds.

http://www.machperformance.com
Mach performance custom builds turbo kits for the 97+ Vortec V6's..
About 390rwhp on a stock block at 11psi.. Im sure you guys want to go all out though...
The kit is made to fit in the S-series truck (S10 Sonoma).. but this guy can do some amazing work, and Im sure would have no problem making it fit in your hotrods..
And hell yeah it looks good..

hey you may want to check out syty.org which is a page dedicated to cyclone trucks with the 4.3L v-6 turbocharged theres a guy on there with a 9.89 quarter mile blast there maybe something useful there.... oh and by the way i was just toying with the idea of turbocharging something and i thought what better than my 2001 ford ranger 4x4 off road package 4.0L if anybody can direct me to a site that will help me pick the right turbo and even see if it is possible and cost effective!

Theres a guy on astrosafari.com who claims he built his 4.3 to over 300 hp with no turbo. He still hasn't figured out how to make his ecm run it though.Next time i swing by there i'll ask him what he did to it and exactly how muck hp hes getting.
edelbrock makes headers for the 4.3 if any one cares.

Right idea, wrong V-6
Great idea, and it's been done many times. But skip "reinventing the wheel" so to speak. Go to www.turbobuicks.com and the "Hybrids" section. Also www.misred.com Many, many Z cars running 3.8 liter Buick V6's from Grand Nationals (same as what I have in my '36 Chevy ). The guys on there have been there and done that and will help you immensely.
The 4.3 Syclone/Typhoon setup is nice too (an almost direct copy of the 3.8 Buick setup) but the motors are less reliable at higher than stock boost levels.
for more on Turbo Buicks:
www.gnttype.org (the granddaddy)
www.turbobuick.com (the "big" board)
the aforementioned
www.turbobuicks.com
and
www.turbo6power.com (new board)
Also Sy/Ty sections on a couple of these boards.
