head question
Does anyone put the old camel hump heads on 350's anymore. Like the 62-64 cc critters? I hear alot about vortec and all the aftermarket heads. I just wondered if I had a set, other than boosting the cr, what benefit would a guy get over stock run of the mill 350 heads?"oohh...thats gonna leave a mark!"

I'm no Chevy expert, but thought I would give your thread a little bump to give it a little more time. But, from what I have seen the Chevy guys discuss, it seems the FI heads were great in their day, but have been surpassed by newer technology, like the Vortecs. There is some mystique though in being able to say you have the double humps on your engine, for what that is worth.
Now we will let the guys who really know tell us.

I just gave mine away, there good for boosting compression, but you have to get the valve seats hardened for todays gas, i think theres just better stuff out now

the 461 and 462 2.02 models were the better flowing of all the castings they made, they were just a well designed head that could be bolted straight on plain and simple a good choice back in the day to gain easy performance, now that most of them have been raced out and put on restorations they are just hard to find, and if you find them they are pricey and for the cost to have them redone, with all the aftermarket heads available, aftermarkets are now your better buy. i think aluminums are 40 lbs lighter a set, and now all the vortecs around they are a good head too, i dont know if they are better but they are more available now.

People are still paying 100 to 200 bucks for used humps. I sold one set of mine for $100, it was going to cost me $350 to get ex seat grind job and a set of springs to match my cam I get. Thats $450 bucks I am putting towards $1,000 set of Alluminum heads.

I've found the hottest market for all the old castings to be the circle burner guys who are rule restricted to GM heads..... As for the price, we just bought 7 sets of the old camel backs for $500, all magnafluxed good. We'll keep the best set and sell off the rest..... There are still lots of them out there if you don't mind digging, as long as the racers and resto guys keep spending the big $$$$$ on them I'll keep digging!!!!!
As for heads for my own projects, as others have said there are better flowing aluminum heads out there starting at under $1,000 a set ready to bolt on......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I would buy them bare and order the good valves, springs, locks, retainers, seals.
Then have your machine shop assemble them.
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
