    Post Low budget 355 142

So heres the plan, take a 355 with a mild blower cam 488/488 or so, 112-114 lsa, and a duration to fit, shorter intake, little bit longer exaust.
Vortec heads, and stock bottom end except for hyper pistons with a dish to get around 8:1 CR. (I know forged would be better, and I will upgrade to forged once I have the cash, for now this is low budget and i've seen non racer blown egines made with stock pistons)
Ontop of that I want to bolt a weiand 142 supercharger with probably a 650cfm blower carb(What was suggested through the holley web page).

When I first get the engine in and try to start it the first few times, I dont want it to detonate, for fear of blowing the pistons up. Now if im not moving or going into high rpms, the roots blower wont really be making any psi right? So its not like the pressure in the cylinders will be THAT much right?

So what do I do to my engine the first time/s I start it to prevent detonation?

    Thanks
    Steve

    I would try a .465/.488 lift cam with224/234 at .050 on 112-114 l/s.
I would not even try the Hyper pistons.
In our budget stock car engine that makes in the 450 hp area we have had the tops peel right off above the top ring land on the hyper piston.
I.M.O.,I would save your money and build it right the first time or don't build it at all.
There is less then $250 in the piston price difference.

Since writing this I found some forged pistons that I might just use.

    Nice CR, nice price.

you'll have to find a 142 blower that will fit with vortech heads. if you have hood clearence issues, or think you might, a 144 blower is 3/4" shorter, and uses teflon to seal the tips. both will boost 5-7 PSI with the supplied pully's.
You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Going for 142, as I dont think the 144 comes for the vortec heads, not that I can find at least. From what guys with my car says(86 monte SS) I am going to need a 2inch cowl hood and short air cleaner for the blower to fit.

Finding a 350 isnt hard, cant seem to find one in decent shape locally though.
Due to my father having 2 gtos and the fact that hes been a pack rat since he was 16, I have nowhere to keep an engine until it gets nicer out and I can wrap it up outside while I wait for all the pieces to arrive to put it together.
Trying to find somewhere where I can store it inside, but without a truck I really need to find a 350 that the person can deliver it for me. Noone wants to sell them that badly it seems, lol.

Well, I found a 350. Recently bored and checked out. My dads friend is going to come over and check over it and the crank/rods. If all is well, im probably going to just take it to the machine shop to have the freeze plugs/cam bearings put in.

And then I can start ordering my pistons, cam, and supercharger.
Then everything else on the engine that is going to kill my wallet.

    Cant wait to start!
