    Looking for a good combo!

I am currently building a 400 + .040 over SBC. I have a complete rotating assembly that has been balanced and is ready to go. The assembly consist of a Eagle 4130 steel crank, Eagle 4130 H Beam rods and Mahle 13.2-1 compression pistons. I am looking for a good combination of cam, heads and intake to seal the deal. I am not out to break any records and I have about $2500-3000 to spend. I am a bracket racer and want the best bang for the buck. My goal is to achieve 550-650 hp.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Scott

I played around with my computer virtual dyno.

550 HP would be about the limit of a solid lift cam. To go much past 550, you will need a roller camshaft ($$$), a good set of heads and intake.

You did not tell us what your gear is.
    Man. or auto.?
    Stall speed?
Do you have a trans. brake?

I am building a 8 3/4" GM rear end at the moment. I did not purchase the gears yet but was looking at some 456's.

I currently have a TH350 and a 3000 stall but may need to upgrade later.

Also, rhamm1320, thanks for the computer dyno results! There are however a couple minor differences. I have a Holly 850 cfm carb and 1.87" headers. This may not make much difference. I was also looking at the track 1 heads with 208/160 valves. Although, it looks like the dart heads would do the trick and maybe save me a few bucks. Either way, it appears that I am well within budget.

    Thx,
    Scott

    Hey Scotty
If You Want To Make Some Power & Save Some Bucks Get The Dart 230 Iron Eagles, they Are The Most Advanced Iron Heads Ive Seen For A Small Block. & You Can Run A 2.100 Intake W/those Heads! They Are About 5 Benjamins ($500) Bare! W/that Rollercam Rhamm1320 Suggested You Should Really Be Able To Curl Your Toes,! You Can Always Ad A Power Adder(turbos, nitrous, huffers)
I Would Use A Brodix(hvh1000) Intake W/manley Valves [s.e.duty] And Nextec Springs, (crower Rollerrockers [preferebly Shaftrockers] W/a 1.65 Ratio Then Your Cam Doesnt Have To Be That Big To Get The Desired Lift You Want. Oh Yea! Use The Comp Endurex Super Rollers. This Stuff Is Pretty Tuff & Battle Hardened.(

Thanks to all. I had a long discussion with my local engine specialist and I have decided to go with the Brodix Track 1 heads (208/160), 630/630 roller cam with split rockers (1.5/1.6) and a Edelbrock Victor Race intake. Grand total = 2800ish. Only time will tell but hopefully this set up will work out for me.
