    SBC with 144 blower q's

my dad is planning on running a 144 blower on his new GM Goodwrench 350/ 260 HP engine, with the low boost ( 5-7 PSI ) pully's, Holley's site and the instructions say this is all good, but when I suggested to my dad to get a blower specific cam, he says he's "drawing the line" at putting the blower on, he says that it is all he needs. now I know that the cam it came with is a very small cam, I told him he would get way more out of it with the blower specific cam, but still insisted it wasn't worth it. I actully think the cam is too small for a blower, and would keep the cyl preassures up and cause excess wear. he is more worried about getting the timing dialed in W/O pinging, so he can run the engine on the edge of detonation ( using Knock sensor ), so he can pick up 10 HP, rather than leave it in a safe zone. he's gotta replace the radiator anyway, and the grill only screws in, changing cam wouldn't be that bad. here is the full engine specs

    Engine Name: 350 LM1
    Horsepower: 249 HP @ 5,000 RPM
    Torque: 304 Ft/Lbs @ 3,500 RPM
    Compression Ratio: 8.50 to 1
Block: 4 – Bolt, 2 Piece Rear Seal, 4.000” Bore
    Crankshaft: Cast Nodular 3.480” Stroke
    Heads: Cast Iron, 76cc
    Valves: 1.940” / 1.500”
    Camshaft lift: 0.390” / 0.410” Hydraulic
    Duration @ 0.050”: 195° / 202°
    Intake: Not Included

what do you guys think? does he need convincing?

Matt, You are right. You need to convince your dad to get the right cam.The blower cam is a must. The Weiand 144s work very well on the street. You will also need to use a carb that is blower frendly. the boost signal in the blower carb is much differant than a regular carb.
We have sold several of the Weiand 144s in the past and know the pit falls that come with them. Your on the right track if you can convince him. If you need help please feel free to get ahold of us.
We can save you alot of headache and some cash to boot.

he's gonna use a 650 CFM Holley blower carb. would the smaller cam be detremental to the engine over time?

Matt, Your biggest issue will be with the stock cam.The blower cams have very little overlap and a centerline of about 110.may not hurt the motor but wont run very well. I would compare the stock cam specs to a blower cam. 144s dont like compression over 8.5 to 1. So check that also.
