    Cam Bearing install

As I said in my post below, the machine shop failed to line up my cam bearings. I am thinking of just doing it my self. So I go get a chevy sb cam tool, then what.? Are these tricky to put in or is there anything special I need to know before going at it? Thanks.

the sbc are full grooved for oil as long has they are in the center of the groove so you can get oil to the cam any were the holes are. alot of guys off set the cam bearings to help the cam get a better oil flim on a hi load at the bottom of the cam bearings. so they will put them in at 3to4 clock tool to put cam bearings in with you can press them in or hit them in with a driver lisle is the same as many snap-on and goodson sell them as many. i like the rubber sleeve type. are they easy to put in ? they are not bad but like any thing you can run in to things like a bad bore to small or the cam many not fit and more .i de bur the holes in the block if need and allways debur the cam bearings. you must drive them in square and you can hurt the block with the driver taking the old ones out the steel part can hurt the cam bores on the block i have see them like this many times if you buy one with sleeves i round the sharp edges off the expanding segment to keep this from hitting the bore of the block

What Pat says here covers it for me.
Every single engine I build gets the cam bearings put at the 3:00 position.
I have also been known to "chamfer" the bearings a little to try and cover a little more area on the cam journal.
This is not really needed un-less you are as anal as I am about things.

Thanks guys. Meybe I should just wait till Monday to ask him if they are just offset. I think I'm hearing as long as the 360 goove is in line with the block hole, so oil can travel through, I should be in good shape. Could be, my buddy picked up the stuff, so I didn't get to check it over before hand. The MS has always been good any other time. Well I won't freak yet! Again, thanks.
