    GM Crate motor 12499529

does anyone know if this crate motor has forged pistons or cast and are they flat top or dished/ and if it has pressed in stud or threaded studs for the rocker arms?
    thanks

No GM small block crate motor comes with forged pistons.

You're getting lifters and rockers confused. Roller rockers can be installed in place of regular rockers, regardless of hydraulic, solid, flat, or roller lifters. Roller lifters usually involve some modification to the block or expensive conversion lifters as well as a roller cam to replace flat tappets.

Should have stated this I'm not a mechanic, but just trying to get this motor from a 8.5 to 1 to 9 to 1 compression for a race truck at local track for daughter to race and be a little completive. just cant see spending 7500.00 from a engine builder not knowing she will stick with it just trying to make it work for the season before jumping in head first. Any suggestion what we should replace in motor such as pistons, cam, rockers etc

I post this all the time......A good book on engines and budget horse power is David Vizzards book ,how to build max performance on a budget. It has 10 motor combos in the back and goes over how to make many improvements to a basically stock motor.
Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

    12499529 - 350/290 HP V8 Crate Engine
The HP 350/290 is GM Performance Parts’ value leading crate engine, with 290 horsepower @ 5100 RPM, and 326 lb-ft of torque @ 3,750 RPM on 87 octane fuel. The 350/290 HP will provide great long term durability with its 4-bolt mains, PM steel rods, strong cast aluminum pistons. The camshaft has .450” intake and .460” exhaust lift with hydraulic flat tappets. The durable cast iron cylinder heads have 1.94” intake and 1.50” exhaust valves with 76 cc combustion chamber and process healthy amounts of air to deliver strong torque across the rpm range along with great mid-range horsepower. The heads have the conventional 12 bolt intake manifold attaching design used from 1955 through late 1980.

    Horsepower: 290 HP @ 5,100 RPM Torque: 326 FT/LBS @ 3,750 RPM

Technical Notes: 1) Distributor with melonized steel gear MUST be used with steel camshafts or engine damage will occur. GM recommends their HEI distributor P/N 93440806 if you need a complete distributor and not just a hardened gear.
    2) Use ported vacuum for vacuum advance when setting timing.
