Also the early Muncie had the 27 spline output shaft the late Muncie had the 32 spline output shaft. Only way to be really sure it is an M22 is to pull the side cover off and check for the shallower angle cut gears. Most guys get fooled by M21's thinking they are M22's
You can buy brand new gears for the M22 at around 500.00. So just get on ebay and buy a good case with the 1" countergear shaft, tailshaft and sidecover. Then buy a new set of gears, bearings, syncro cones. And you should have yourself a good M22 gearbox.

Saginaw tranny's have rings on the input shaft, and cast iron cases. The rings tell you how strengh of the tranny. I would not use them on motors over 400hp or if you into really hitting the gears with a posi rearend.
    I have 3 of them in my garage. 2 came from '75 Camaro's, I don't know about the 3rd.

I have pic's of the shafts somewhere but can't find where I put them!

Viking's link attachment is dead on. Very frustrating so many years ago to do this kind of research. The specs on the chart listed through the link is dead-on. My brain hurts when I go to swap meets and to recall this info in my head. Good job Viking!
