    Carburetor choice.

     



    Hi everyone!

    Im looking into buying a carburetor for my sbc. I was looking at a holley 3310 and a 750 speed demon.

    Well the holley is a bit big and costs a lot of money even if you just buy a rebuildable core.

    The speed demon is mildly cheaper, has annular boosters for better fuel control of the 750cfm on a small block and has alot of other cool little features. BUT! Alot of the problems that have been surfacing with demon carbs lately have kinda scared me off.

    SO I have a chance to buy a 625 cfm Carter AFB Carb. That was just rebuilt and has a guruntee that it will work or it will be fixed for free. So what do you guys think about Carter carbs? Ive never even seen one up close. Do they work nice? Good performance? Also my quadrajet I have right now is the wrong bolt pattern {spreadbore} would the carter be the right pattern? {which would be squarebore,Correct?}.

    Any other tips would be greatly appreciated, Id be getting a good deal on the carter. Here are my engine specs.

    350 Chev
    Stock rotating assembly with aftermarket stock replacement pistons, 4 valve reliefs.
    Summit 1105 cam Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 282/ 292, Lift .465/ .488
    300hp heads. Casting #-3973370, Straight plug, 64cc combustion chambers, 1.9-1.5 valves.
    Gm Hi PO aluminum dual plane high rise intake.
    Some type of unknown HEI distributor
    Carb?

    If you want to know more like tranny, vehicle make, rear gears etc just ask.

    The AFB will work on the 350, as long as there isn't too much fuel pressure. Some Chev pumps are too much, need a regulator.
    I prefer Carters because they aren't as prone to dirt fouling as Holleys. But millions run Holleys too, many more than anything else.

    i have use holleys and the afb.s. the afb with a adapter for the square bore and no more then 5 psi on the fuel up to the carb for the afb i would use the AFB...

    Wait so the afb is a spreadbore pattern? Thats no good then. One of the reasons Im switching my carb is because of the need for a spacer which makes it impossible to run a airbreather. {high rise intake and spacer and carb is just too high}.

    The most driveable Carburator that I've ever found is a Single Line 600 CFM Holley. I don't use the 1850 Model I use the one that is recomend for your engine appliaction.

    No I have a spread bore carburetor right now. Its a q jet. But My intake bolt pattern is squarebore. Which means I have to run a spacer which creates the too high problem. My q jet is also having some other problems. Once I find the carb I wanna set on top then Ill take off the q jet and tear it apart and try to learn something. Anyways thanks for the help everyone unfortunatly there has been a misunderstanding between the seller and I and he would rather not sell me the carburetor anymore.

    PS: Yea I think I might look into finding a holley. Time proven technology, good performance and plentiful.

    You might be able to solve your too high problem with a drop base air cleaner. I run a 3" on both the Mustang and Duster and there is no hood interference on either.

    No we tried that. Its VERY close but not quite. I need a new carb anyways my q jet is screwed!

    My choice would be a 600 Holley but a 600 Eddy would work just as well.
