high torque starter?
If I needed a high torque starter on a budget, is there one I could ask for from my local parts store?Maybe one from a older vette or camaro with a high output motor from the factory?I know chevy had some high compression motors, what starters did they run on their small blocks?Or should I just bite the bullet and by a gear reduction starter from one of the aftermarket groups?

I'm going through fits right now with a high torque mini starter from Powermaster. Can't get the clearance between gear and flexplate right. As far as I am concerned, the jury is still out on how good these things are.
My honest opinion, if you can get a factory type starter for your application you would be better off. I may revert to that myself.

well go get a heavy field .and a heavy duty bendix drive.with a iron nose. i used this type of stock GM starter to turn over a 548 14.8 bbc engine . gear starter just take up less room that about it with the cheapy ones . the alum block on the gear drive starter some times need to be milled to get the air gap right on the fly wheel to bendix. i had to mill more then one to get it to workIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
