Oiling Problem-Leaking (pouring out) from filter lip
Guys,
I have a Gen 1 350 that came out of an old box truck. I put an aftermarket spin-on filter adapter on it. As I was priming the oil system, oil started dumping out from where the screw-on filter meets the lip of the adapter. It's almost as if oil is getting into the filter then has no where to go but out between the adapter and the filter. It's not a "single drip" scenario. It's coming out like a waterfall covering 2/3 of the circumference of the filter.
This is my first Chevy build and I expected some problems but nothing like this. Perpendicular to the oil filter are 2 holes with screw in plugs that I sealed up. I assumed these were for a remote cooler but may have something to do with creating my problem. All the build books I have don't really talk about these holes. Any ideas on what I did wrong ?? Any and all advice is welcome.

The adapter I'm using has a gasket that seals between the block and the adapter. Look s similar to a watere pump gasket (one large hole in the center and two smaller holes at opposite ends for the bolts to pass through). In addition, there is a rubber seal between the block surface and the outer edge of the adapter. On the filter side of the adapter, there is a flat surface that the oil filter seal presses against when it's screwed down. This is where it's leaking. Between this machined surface on the adapter and the seal on the oil filter. Again, it's almost as though the oil is getting into the filter then has nowhere to go but between these two surfaces. Does this help.

Looks like I may have solved it. Double-cheked everything as Denny recommended. There was a "low spot" on the rim of the oil filter that wasn't allowing it to seal flatly against the adapter. New filter and everything looks good. Thanks for the help Denny !!!
