Help!
I have been trying to install a motor mount on my sbc 350 for the past week. No matter how I jack or pry i can not get the holes to align for bolting the mount to the body mount. Any trick that i have not figured out. This is so frustrating i am about to scream.BARB

Both sides are loose?
Loosen the opposite side, then jack the opposite side up.
That should allow the problem side to drop a bit.
Also try loosening the problem mount from the block so it can wiggle a little.
Once it fits, then tighten it back to the block. There is no limit to what a man can do . . . if he doesn't mind who gets the credit. (Ronald Reagan)

the mount is on the passenger side. the top mount is setting too low on the back and i can not get it to rise to allow for the bolt to clear. i have tightened up the body mount and the block mount and still no go. i have also busted my elbow and fingers on both hands.BARB

The tapered punch is a good idea.
Have you tried starting the bolt in the front, then pry bar the rear of the mount up and tap the bolt in.Last edited by SBC; 11-01-2007 at 12:39 PM.

Their not all that hard ,but you could lossen ALL the engine mount bolts, even the trans bolts, and then install your bolt and tightened them all down at the same time.Friends dont let friends drive fords!

The guys have hit it exactly. You can be just a hair off, and the bolt won't slide through. If you loosen everything up to give you some wiggle room you can put a pointed punch or end of a pointed prybar in there and align them. Don't tighten all the bolts down until you are able to get the long bolt home, then tighten them up.
Sidenote: Just the other day when I was at the next door garage borrowing the tool to install my tranny seal, I asked Mark how he manages to do stuff all by himself with no second pair of hands. He showed me a box of all kinds of goofy, homemade stuff including some bungee corded ones that he uses to act as a helper. After you do this stuff for long enough you get a good handle on what it takes to accomplish some task.

Passenger side? If you still run the mechanical fuel pump, go from the backside forward. Pump will block any future removal of that bolt with out more labor to remove parts to gain access. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

try getting the frame mounts to line in the holes, and keeping the thin flex plate lined up, on a Ford 200 6cyl putting it in. took me 2 days w/ 4 guys helping.
I changed a tranny mount on my '94 Tempo in 1/2 hr, people told me THAT was a hard job.You don't know what you've got til it's gone
