Mid 90's 350
I've been looking for an engine for my 1981 1/2 ton. My 305 isn't that great of an engine. Actually I posted a while ago about it under broken 305. Anyway I've seen a few fuel injected 350's out there for cheap and was wondering how hard it would be to convert it from fuel injected to carburated. I might be able to pick up a set of lod 350 heeads for free and have them worked. What parts might I need to convert?:

intake manifold and carb setup. Ignition system.
You are basically taking control of the fuel and ignition and doing away withthe related sensors. Most of the stuff would probably transfer from the 305 as far as the intake and ignition, just putting a different long block under it.Last edited by threearmsinjune; 11-23-2007 at 02:23 PM.

Intake and intake to head bolt patterns are the same, but they go in at a different angle on newer engines. The "cheap" fix is just to drill the 4 holes (the ones around the base of the injection/carb unit) a bit bigger and use the washers as you normally would. Not a perfect solution but it is working on BUNCHES of engines I'm sure and it doesn't show. Where are you finding them for cheap anyway?? I need one for my 98 1500. Its got a 200k 305 in it and I want to replace with a 350. Any help?? I can/would rebuild it so any leads on a cheap rebuilder would be great. Would even be willing to trade some custom paint work...If its not worth doing right, its not worth doing... Donny, MaxxMuscle Custom Painting

the engine that you are talking about is . The GM #12568758 its a 87-95 LIGHT TRUCK 350 two bolt main . It does have hypereutectic pistons with 9.4.1 CR .Also uses a high volume oil pump and a flat tappet hyd cam . It is 200hp/300ft/lb of torque . I was thinking of using one in my 1989 1500 Chevy . You can run a TBI or a carb . And it does have the hole for the mechanical fuel pump . You can buy these engines from Chevy or summit/jegs . This engine cost around $1730.00 A cheap intake to use on it to run a 4bbl is . The Professional Products Cyclone intake #52001 . This intake has a set up with adapters that fit in the center holes . This make it possable to run this intake on early or late heads . And its a Dual Plane with a cost of $109.95 I think this is a good engine for the money .

Thanks for the info! Donny, I've been finding these engines in upstate New York, were I live, for anywhere between $200 and $300. I think that is a good price for a low mileage 350. I also can buy a whole chevy short bus with a new gm crate 350 with 1500miles on it for $700. When I get the money I might just buy that. I can scrap the bus after I take the engine out of it and get some money back.
Thank you Roger. .
