Ok you say this engine will go into a 1986 Monte Carlo with a 700R4 trans . The 700R4 trans will work well on the street with it's Low 3.07 first gear . But the stock rear end in that Monte Carlo at biggest is a 2.73 . I think it would be best to put that 355 on an engine stand and see what you have . You can buy a Budget camshaft-Lifters for $89.95 from Summit . They have a Camshaft # SUM-K1103 . That camshaft is 214/224 dur at .050 and 442/465 lift 110 L/S . This cam is about as big as you will want to go with that stock trans and 273 or smaller rear end . And that stock iron intake ? Also a real good time to change it out with an aluminum High Rise . Summit has a Budget Dual plane # SUM-226008 this intake will work with a squarebore or spreadbore carb . It cost $99.95 . And one more thing to pick up would be a new HP HEI distributor . When you can post the engine and cylinder head casting #s . Then we can give you more info on this engine . COOL
