Financially I am relatively stuck with my SBC 350 but I wonder why I did not take a longer look at the Buick 350 which has the longest stroke of the GM V8 families. I recall a Hot Rod article about "The other 350". With a stroke of greater than 3.84 inches but smaller pistons than the SBC 350 (3.8" diameter) the Buick 350 has more than 300 ft. lb. or torque at low rpm but the stock engine peaks out around 270 HP. This shows the shift of the torque peak to lower rpm values so I wonder why the plentiful Buick 350 did not become more popular. It is almost 100 pounds lighter than the SBC, but maybe 1" wider than the Chevy. The added width might be a problem for some cars but it is not much more than the SBC. I became interested in this mainly because of the lighter weight of about 450 pounds and the longer stroke interested me too. Maybe some of you know whether a 700 R4 trans bolt pattern will be a problelm for a Buick 350? On the other hand the SBC with even a modest cam improvement can easily approach the same torque values so maybe the more plentiful SBC and all the aftermarket parts still make it the engine of choice. Still it looks like the Buick 350 is a great street engine!

They're not a real high back bucket, might be good Hot Rod pickup material for someone.... Worst part is on the big stuff is getting it there, freight rates have gotten ridiculous..... Smaller stuff can still go parcel post or UPS fairly reasonable yet.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

the price of heads keep going down .how good are they ? the patriot performance heads for as-cast are 460.a pair .so why would you play with heads that are old casting that could be well used ? i have got in to this beforei have a machine shop would be happy to reguide put new seats in .cut out for bigger valves. mill and do a 3 angle valve job on a old worn out set of heads .now the new head s could need a tune in on all the stuff i listed but still your getting a better flowing head .i still think your going to have more in old gm casting then a new set it is a time and money thing. if your time is worth nothing then stones sand paper and other supplys will add up . you still will have to cart them off to the machine shop .when done you have a old out dated heads that could flow not any better then they did stock with a very good valve job i still think this is were alot of power is on how the seat is formed and the valve flows and the short side radius of the port along with the chamber and how it much it shrouds the valve

As for them worn out used heads . I check them first before I spend hours porting them . And yes I have bought good used Dart -World heads . And I do have Friends that run real good times at the track with stock castings heads . One guy that I now has a 1969 Nova Home built 427 BB Chevy with GM iron heads . Every weekend he drives it to the track over 50 miles one way on the high way . Bolts on a pair of slicks runs 10s and he is a points leader . Put the street tires on. And drives it home . 90% of the heads I ported the guides were ok and the seat were not pounded . Even the new heads get the hand Lapping done to the valves before I assemble them . If I had to wait to buy a high cost set of heads they would be a bare set . And I would be the guy to put them together .COOL

Visited a family member at Dockery Ford from the time I was 1 year old through their ownership and then ownership change to Morristown Ford. Dockery was a major player in the Hi Performance...
