sometimes we settle for what is good enuff .. people ask why i still have ported old iron heads on my 429 when there are many good aftermarket aluminum heads out now .. i just dont think 50 hp is worth 2500 bucks .. but a class racer " pro stock - nascar - etc .. would give that any day for 5 hp ...

Them Pro Stock boys probably spend a mil during the off season trying to find another 5 horse!!!!! Since Ford came out with the SCJ-John Kasse heads, the outdated CJ heads are going for cheap...when you can find a set.... Scored a set of them that were fresh and had been on a spare motor for one of the big boys when there team updated.....The guy I got them from said they had updated their heads with a net gain in hp of 7!!!!! I just smiled and took my $700 set of "outdated" heads home!!!! The pro racers really operate on a whole different planet then the rest of us!!!!!!

Hey!!! I do still have a mid eighties 460 EFI long block....using it as a mock up engine in the Ranchero now but I sure would let it go reasonable if somone needed it!!!!

Those big boys don't have to worry about expense to much when updating. That has to be like shopping with a limitless credit card, 0 interest.
They're on the Comet drag car.... When we get the cars out and start prepping things this spring I'm going to get some pics....got to have new stuff for sponsors and perspective sponsors to try to get more $$$$$!!!!!! I would love to find a set to put on Rog's T-Bird, too..... It just has some mildly reworked Edelbrock heads now.... Remember the dyno sheet I posted on the Comet with 500 rwhp???? The "outdated" heads I bought for it is what brought it up to that....previous year's engine was about 30 less at the wheels...

Yeah, sure would be fun to build a car using the same budget some of them guys have, huh??????

If I could find a set then we would sell the Edelbrock's if they would do someone any good.... They are excellent heads, but would probably be better on a big horse street engine, not quite up to the task for racing, we still need another 1/10 on the T-Bird......

Too much dang "down time" this winter to really get out and search.....getting old really sucks!!!!

What else you looking for? Might be some stuff around here......

Yeah and probably similar to the one I went to, a one room school on a back country road. Not a lot of fancy gadgets, but buckets of common sense.

Financially I am relatively stuck with my SBC 350 but I wonder why I did not take a longer look at the Buick 350 which has the longest stroke of the GM V8 families. I recall a Hot Rod article about "The other 350". With a stroke of greater than 3.84 inches but smaller pistons than the SBC 350 (3.8" diameter) the Buick 350 has more than 300 ft. lb. or torque at low rpm but the stock engine peaks out around 270 HP. This shows the shift of the torque peak to lower rpm values so I wonder why the plentiful Buick 350 did not become more popular. It is almost 100 pounds lighter than the SBC, but maybe 1" wider than the Chevy. The added width might be a problem for some cars but it is not much more than the SBC. I became interested in this mainly because of the lighter weight of about 450 pounds and the longer stroke interested me too. Maybe some of you know whether a 700 R4 trans bolt pattern will be a problelm for a Buick 350? On the other hand the SBC with even a modest cam improvement can easily approach the same torque values so maybe the more plentiful SBC and all the aftermarket parts still make it the engine of choice. Still it looks like the Buick 350 is a great street engine!

Nope, I went to a school the first 6 years that had 4 rooms for grades 1 thru 8.... It closed after my 6th grade year and we had to ride the bus to the "big school" in town!!!! Every class had it's own room, plus the 3rd floor was the high school!!!!! Thought the place was huge!!!!! It was about 1/2 mile from the farm.

Hmmmm... I do have some FE stuff, kind of saving it up, though..... I've got the 460 in the Ranchero, and as soon as our spare engine is done I may be selling a 501 Ford..... I got so dang many small parts, suspension pieces, and stuff like that I wouldn't know where to began listing it all... Most recent addition would be the grey seats out of the 'maro and the steering box and associated parts off the '82.... They're not a real high back bucket, might be good Hot Rod pickup material for someone.... Worst part is on the big stuff is getting it there, freight rates have gotten ridiculous..... Smaller stuff can still go parcel post or UPS fairly reasonable yet.....
