Chevy SB 383 build
Hi out there. I WILL be performing a 383 build this summer and I have big plans. I know what I want to do and I have a few questions.
The build starts off with a 99' EFI vortec 350, four bolt main motor. I will buy the eagle 383 stroker kit and will bore as little as possible to clean up the cylinder walls. I want the power band to be low, somthing like 600-4500RPM. I will use stock heads and intake. I will have the heads machined to proper specs and the block will be machined. This will go into a chevy Astro(that right, I said astro) and it will be EFI still.
Here are some questions that I have.
1. Do I need to get a Cam that is specificly made for EFI?
2. Do I need to get aftermarket injectors for this set up?
3. What kind of computer mods should I do(I would like a system that I can put on my laptop and use it to tune and monitor PIDs if possible).
4. Does anyone know the differance between a 98' block and a 99' block?
Thanks for looking and any imput is appriciated. I will be doing this project this summer and I want to learn as much as possible before spending any money.

Also, I would really appreciate it if anyone has any links to builds to EFI 383 builds or anything simular. All I have found is carb builds and I don't think that the cam sellections are the same.

I would recommend posing this question on the fuel injection forum at www.chevytalk.com.

1 Yes you need to run stock cam so the stock computer work properly. You can advance it 4° and be safe.
2 No the stock injector will work, You may have to increase the fuel pressure.
3. Yes you do need to reprogram the computer. I suggest get Hypertech programer.
4. I think both 98 and 99 block are the same.

I could run the stock cam, but I want to run a more stout cam that has an band of about 600-4500rpm. let me re word the question.
1. When getting an aftermarket cam, do I need to get one that is EFI specific?
Racer100,

Call CompCams Cam Help line at 800-999-0853. They have a line of cams specifically designed for EFI/TBI applications. You do not have to run a stock cam, but you are limited to how large you can go.

My brother and I pooled our money and bought an HP tuner program since we both have LS1 powered Camaros. I know you can get into some deep stuff, (VE tables for instance) to really custom tune it. Plus they have Beginner, Intermediate, and Pro levels, depending how far you want to go.
We just haven't had the time to really get far into it yet.I ain't dumb, I just ain't been showed a whole lot!
