Moroso has them, along with a bunch of companies that advertise them on eBay.....

SMALL BLOCK CHEVY SHORT WATER PUMP It is a daily driver that sits in traffic almost as much as it moves. 700r4 3/1 gears never see any hige RPM. No where to put an electric fan no room for cluch fan. Only hope is to spin fan faster. Will try this befor I move air cond. condencer under cab so I can add electric fan infront of rad

Well, I got to ask..... Is this the pickup in your avatar??? If so, why do you subject a hot rod to stand still and move 10 feet driving???? Got to be just about the hardest thing there is on a car.....

Yes same one. I built this one to drive. Just did not build to drive in LA. It's nothing fancy and know fun just sitting. Besides the only real way to shake one down is to drive it. It has gone back and forth from Washington to Los Angles 4 times now. Gets 27mpg freeway and 18-19 city best when not idling

    You're overheating in traffic?

Are you running a vacuum advance distributor?

If not and you are overheating, that's more than likely why.

This sounds as if you have no fan This would not be good, as you need air flow through the radiator to cool the water. Spinning the water pump faster probably won't help. The coolant needs to stay in the radiator long enough to cool down. If you do have a fan on it, is it shrouded?

Yes I have a vacume advance dist and I did move from ported to mamifold seamed to help. I do have a fan tried the fiber glass black fan and a factory looking steel and a very aggresive looking SS flex fan. Tested by how hard it held paper against grill, SS flex was best. I do have a shroud pretty much just a 2" deep box that covers the back of rad with a 18" hole for fan. With the Alt and the compresor above valve cover there is room for a 6-8" fan in uper drivers side. Thank and keep help comming.....Jim

I had a similar cooling problem in my 32 with a "unvented" three piece hood and a 350/350. It would over heat "in traffic" even with the electric fan on. I tried everything including new head gaskets, the final solution was the water pump. I ended up puting one of the "high flow" pumps on from Flow Cooler in San Luis Obispo, CA. They have an impeller which is built for high flow but at lower engine RPM. My original cheap aluminum polished pump had the impeller with 1/2" clearance to the pump body when I took it apart. The car has been driven 8000 miles since and I hardly even turn on the electric fan.

John what brand of pump was that?
I tried a Edelbrock on me Ranchero, I did not notice any differance. May be the stock alum Mustang was real good in the first place........Jim
