Crane 274H06 Cam
Anyone out there running a Crane 274H06 in a 350 small block with around 9 to 1 cr??? If so what are you running it in and how do you like it?? This is a 218-218 dur. cam, .450-.450 lift, 106 LSA cam for my 81 Vette with 3.73 gears, 4 speed, headers, and 600 Edel. on a Performer intake. Was hoping someone might have a sound clip of it. Thanks.

With a 106 degree lobe separation angle, the idle will be choppy and manifold vacuum will be low. Other than that, it'll work at 9.0:1PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Thanks for your reply. Talked to a guy who used in a similar motor and vacuum was enough to run his power brakes and idled at 650-700 in gear with quite a lope and had really good low and midrange.

Personnally I would run a split pattern cam that favors the intake with 8 degrees more duration and 0.010" more lift. The duration and lift you mentioned would be mild for the street. With your car, gears, and exhaust, you can run the 280 to 295 duration cams.

The crane cam is in the car and what a cam. Has lots of low and midrange punch to it and a great rump rump idle at 850-900 and more cam sound at 600. The GM 260 hp crate motors are advertised as being 8.5 cr but several tests in some car mags said that the measured cr was 8.0 to 1 so this is why I needed the short duration 218 specs that has a shorter intake close point to keep my bottom end from being soggy. Very nice cam in my opinion. I have talked to some buys that are running this cam in 327's and 350's with 3.08 rear gears and stock converters. The 106 Lsa works very well and this same cam is also advertised as an oval track cam for low lift rules-.450 lift on this cam so I did not even have to change springs.
Thank you Roger. .
