Angry what a day.. found my problem... well BOTH of them.

well... what a day.. what a day... so i tore into my 283 a bit just to see if i could find my knock... the 4 and 5 main bearings are done dealin.. i couldnt get a good picture of that under the pickup, but another thing that happened, my balancer.. the key that slides into the crank, had squished and wedged itself in between the balancer and the crank snout, which the balancer had cracked and twisted till stuck.

here you can see the CHUNK that broke out and made its way throughout the engine, and right along the left of the chunk is a crack about an inch away from the front of the balancer.

here you can see how ground up the crank snout is.

to top it off....my daily driver snapped the grenade pin on the idler pully and the belt jumped tooth and you can see what happend... Thank god for fathers who have spare cars laying around!!!!

now i can see why it pays to have quaility parts and to do things the right way.

this was the second time, that a cheapo balancer has cracked on me, but then again, ive never had an instalation tool. this was the first one to "CHUNK" OFF. like this one. the first one that i replaced, was during a cruise just driving the mains, and heard a belt launch off and noticed out of the corner of my eye, that my balancer/crank pullie, flew out under the pickup and was accually rolling faster than the truck its self...

then with my little daily driver... 91 laser turbo 5 spd. thats a BRAND NEW HEAD. because that happened once already. i would take it back to the mechanic and tell him to fix his crap, but he just went bankrupt. o well ill just bite the dust one more time... no wait.. twice...

im still in learing mode.. unfortunately... its kickin my a$$!!!!

ahh yeah... i guess this just gives me an excuse to FINALLY pull the 283 for good, and build my 383 or 406! and as for my little red car, .. its already got 3 engines worth of parts stuffed in it..
