new build already needs new top end
i just got done building my first 383 stroker this last winter and i put it into my 91 camaro i didnt do my homework very well and i had high expectations for it. from what i have heard from talking to the locals is my top end is holding my engine down to about 400 hp but i had an even bigger problem than that. this engine pushed out alot more rpms than i ever expected to see. i couldnt tell you how many because it pegs my 8000 rpm tach. so about a month ago i had to pull the motor because i started spraying valvetrain parts all over. i collapsed a lifter and through another lifter into the intake valley i was thinking the springs were probably floating on me in the high rpms. so ive got the motor all stripped down again but im gonna stay with the lower end i have put together now. i had a pair of strikeforce heads with a crosswind intake with a 280/280 .480 .480 cam in it when all this was happening. ive been asking around and alot of people talk up the afr comp 210s. so i was looking to go with those and a solid roller cam belt/gear drive not sure which quite yet and a edelbrock victor jr intake shaft rockers the whole bit...but before i go buying everything again i figured i would do more homework this time and match the top end with the lower end so i push upwards to 600 hp out of this motor next time. the lower end is fully forged and 13:1 compression. so any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated thankyou in advance

I dont know what to tell you on what head/camshaft/intake combo to use....but maybe on this thread you started http://www.clubhotrod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37797 You could update ..or tell the exact truth about the combo you have for sale.
You say nothing in your add about "had to pull the motor because i started spraying valvetrain parts all over. i collapsed a lifter and through another lifter into the intake valley i was thinking the springs were probably floating on me in the high rpms." ..you quoted this above.

Running that cam aboe 8,000? I'm guessing that the peak HP is at 6,000. No wonder it's scattering parts. Valves floating? Ya think?Jack

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
